The Sycamore Community Band is fortunate to continue to be one of the few band organizations in the area that does not charge its members dues or other fees; it continues to be funded through member and patron donations.
Donations help buy music for the band and supplement our annual scholarship award. The Sycamore Community Band is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization. |

On May 7, 2024, the Pete Metzger Scholarship was awarded to Mr. Wesley Dentinger, a trumpeter, and 2024 graduate of the music program at Sycamore High School. Wesley will be attending Miami University in the fall to study Music Education. He first picked up the trumpet in the 5th grade and is looking forward to continuing his learning and helping others do the same. Wesley says, "one of my favorite memories from high school is playing Lincolnshire Posy by Percy Grainger. The trumpet part is just so much fun!" He was selected for the District 14 Honor Band, CSYO, and CYWE. In addition to those accomplishments he participated in the Sycamore High School Marching Band and Jazz Band for all four years.

The Pete Metzger ScholarshipEach year, the Sycamore Community Band awards a scholarship to a local student musician or school Music Department. Encouraging schools and individual students to continue making music is one way that we give back to our local communities. In 2023 we announced that the Sycamore Community Band scholarship will now be known as “The Pete Metzger Scholarship”, named after our founder, who, during his long and storied career, was a great influence to music and musicians throughout greater Cincinnati.

Scholarship Award Recipients over the years

In 2000, the Band decided to award a student scholarship to commemorate our 25th Anniversary. This marked the beginning of our annual donation program. The purpose of the annual donation is to provide support to expand the appreciation of instrumental music among students as well as to further the education of students in instrumental music.
As a long time active Community Band in the Cincinnati Metro area, we believe that by supporting the musical appreciation & education of our young people, we will help ensure a pool of future members and audiences for the SCB and other Bands in the area for years to come. Recipients in the past have been scholarships to numerous students, support for school programs, support for music therapy organizations and support for programs to supply instruments to children who otherwise could not afford them.
